IEEE AI Hardware & Infrastructure Working Group
(AI HW & Infra WG)

Advancing AI hardware and infrastructure for a scalable, efficient, and secure future.

A technical working group under the IEEE AI Coalition.

About the Working Group

The IEEE AI Hardware & Infrastructure Working Group, operating under the IEEE AI Coalition, is a cross-disciplinary community of engineers, researchers, and industry leaders working at the intersection of semiconductors, systems, and AI deployment. Our members bring expertise spanning cloud and data centers, edge and embedded systems, robotics, and next-generation AI accelerators.

We provide a forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange — from technical insights to ecosystem perspectives — with the goal of shaping the future of AI hardware and infrastructure.

Mission Statement

The AI Hardware & Infrastructure Working Group is committed to advancing the development, standardization, and adoption of innovative hardware & infrastructure solutions, from the Cloud to the Edge, specifically designed for artificial intelligence applications. Our mission is to promote collaboration among industry, academia, and government to drive the creation of efficient, scalable, and secure AI hardware & infrastructure technologies.

Technical Focus Areas

Our scope spans the full AI HW & Infrastructure technology stack — from silicon to cloud systems — and the infrastructures that enable AI to thrive responsibly and at scale.

  • AI Compute Platforms
Cloud, edge, and embedded systems that provide the processing backbone for AI applications.
  • Specialized AI Hardware
Custom accelerators, processors, and architectures purpose-built for AI workloads.
  • AI in the Physical World
Robotics, autonomous systems, and AIoT, where intelligence meets machines and environments.
  • AI Models & Workloads
From large-scale foundation models (LLMs, VLMs, world models) to efficient variants like TinyML.
  • Infrastructure & Sustainability
Data centers, networking, power systems, and advanced cooling that ensure AI is efficient, scalable, and environmentally responsible.

Leadership & Governance

The Working Group is governed by a Committee that provides direction, coordination, and oversight of activities.

This Working Group operates under the IEEE AI Coalition, with support from IEEE Future Directions.

Committee Members:

Bingwei Liu (Chair), Raymond Chik (Vice Chair), Bhala Ranganathan, David Lynch, Harsha Bojja, Sam Prakash Bheri, Mohamed Khan, Aparna Dey, and Massimo Merenda

Activities

  • Webinars & Panels – engaging with thought leaders across industry and academia (series launched Fall 2025).
  • White Papers & Roadmaps – contributions to IEEE AI initiatives, including CAI and Cloud Summit.
  • Community Building – providing a forum for collaboration on next-generation AI hardware and infrastructure.
